The Big Leap Of Faith!
The Big Leap Of Faith!
Tough Situations ask for tough decisions and I firmly believe that something good can always be brought out from a bad situation if we are ready to change and adapt as needed.
It is unfortunate how much COVID has disrupted the structured life of the kids and support systems around them like school. But, this new world scenario probably needs a new format of education for our children. A format that has proven experience with remote learning and not focused on real infrastructure like classrooms, playgrounds, smart boards or AC buses.
I had always been dissatisfied with the present Education System and how it relied on mugging up and Ranks and Marks instead of effective learning. I craved for a "Learning by doing" approach which I was able to do for a bit in the KClub Classes I ran for a while. However, completely disrupting the Academic Session of the kids might not have been an easy decision a few months ago. But, now that it is anyways disrupted, my Hubby and I researched and gave it a lot of thought and finally have decided to Homeschool our kids. We have removed them from their traditional school and have enrolled them for IGCSE Curriculum with Wolsey Hall Oxford for Core subjects like English, Math, Science and Geography. Am planning to homeschool them for the Subjects with Indian Context like History, Hindi, Bengali and have enrolled them in online Coding Classes. As they get used to the new Time Table, plan to start online Hobby Classes too.
It's a huge decision and maybe a huge risk too but I feel this unprecedented situation demanded an unprecedented change. I wasn't happy with the chaos the Online Schooling was causing in their and my life and I felt there was more panic than learning. (The School of course tried it's best but they are more equipped to handle the traditional Schooling System)
Here's hoping this experiment is a successful one and the kids can enjoy the learning process instead of getting stressed by it. It will involve a huge amount of time investment on my part and Self Discipline and determination on their part but hey.....who said Life has to be easy? The kids are excited as they got to create their own study time table and get to study in casuals and play with their dog during their breaks. They have also scheduled time for reading books and Creative time (For drawing, Craft etc).
Wish us luck! I will share updates about the progress in case some others are evaluating something similar. If any of you is doing Homeschooling too then please share your experience.
